4-day Southwest China Shangri-La Tour Package: - Kunming, Dali, Lijiang
Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the novel, “Lost Horizon”, written by British writer James Hilton in 1933. In it, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, and tranquil site of lamasery, enclosed at the western end of the Himalayas. Since then, the term “Shangri-La” has become synonymous with any earthly paradise in the world. In China, the South-western travel destinations of Kunming, Dali and Lijiang, have recently become the most popular Shangri-La for travellers to pursue.
Day 1 Kunming
Our tour guide will pick you up at the Kunming airport. The highlight of today’s itinerary is the famous Stone Forest. Considered one of the world's natural wonders, massive pillars of gray rock have formed a gigantic forest of stone. Some of these natural stone formations have the appearance of animals such as snakes, elephants, birds, and dragons. Dinner is served during a local indigenous culture-dance show. Yunnan province, which includes Kunming, Dali, and Lijiang, is home to many of China’s 55 ethnic minorities, providing a culturally colourful experience and atmosphere for you to explore. You will stay in a hotel in Kunming. L/D
Day 2 Kunming-Dali
You will take an early flight from Kunming to Dali. Visit the old historic town of Dali, the Three Pagodas, and Butterfly Springs, which is also called "Allegiance Spring" by the Bai minority people, as it is here that true and lasting love may be found. An Erhai lake cruise will be another highlight of the day. Shaped like an ear, on a sunny day, the crystal waters of Erhai Lake and the snow mantled Cangshan Mountain radiate with each other.
Thus the scene is traditionally described as "Silver Cangshan and Jade Erhai". You will stay in
a hotel in Dali. B/L/D

You will take a bus to Lijiang, an old town designated by UNESCO as one of the world's major cultural heritage sites. Heavily populated with the Naxi minority people, Lijiang is home to the ancient Dongba culture, where you can see the unique architectural style and ancient water supply system still being maintained. After that, you will visit the Dry Sea, and take an aerial lift up to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, where melting snow flows to the foot of the mountain, forming a white-water River.
